BDD Overview

“Is BDD a good fit for our context?” is one of the many answers you will be able to find in this 90 minute overview of BDD. This module teaches at a high level, the core BDD elements. It provides an overview of the entire BDD lifecyle. It focuses on roles and tasks in the BDD process. You will recieve insights into how to implement BDD, and how to watch out for BDD pitfalls.

Intended Audience
  • Cross Functional Teams
  • Product Owners
  • Developers, Quality Engineers
  • Overview of BDD process, who is involved
  • BDD is not just about automation / applying Gherkin or Cucumber/SpecFlow
  • What problems does applying BDD help solve? For what problems is BDD a good potential solution?

BDD Discovery

Discovery and Formulation phases of BDD is where quality is built in. Through collaboration and example mapping, missing information is identified, the groundwork is performed to ensure easily formulation of tests as well as as proper coverage. This module is great for business analysts and quality engineers who want to ensure well written Gherkin scenarios with appropriate test coverage.

  • Gherkin Scenarios and how to create using Example Mapping
  • Identify missing information
  • Recognize common pitfalls in Gherkin scenarios and how to avoid them
Intended Audience
  • Business Analysts
  • Product Owners
  • Developers, Quality Engineers

BDD Deep Dive

This module is a deep dive into test automation using Gherkin/Cucumber/SpecFlow

  • Know what Cucumber / SpecFlow does
  • what role it plays in BDD and in test automation
  • Learn Cucumber features that improve the flexibility and maintainability of your automation code
  • Use Cucumber to create executable specifications and living documentation
Intended Audience
  • Developers, Quality Engineers

What is BDD?

“BDD is a second-generation, outside-in, pull-based, multiple-stakeholder, multiple-scale, high-automation, agile methodology. It describes a cycle of interactions with well-defined outputs, resulting in the delivery of working, tested software that matters.”

— Dan North

BDD is an agile development process that encourages increased collaboration among developers, QA and non-technical stakeholders. It encourages teams to formalise share understanding of system behaviour. BDD is facilitated through the use of a simple domain-specific language (DSL) using natural language constructs (e.g., English-like sentences) that can express the behaviour and the expected outcomes.

Benefits of BDD

Increase Collaboration. Reduce Rework.

The 14th Annual State of Agile report finds that 19% of organizations employ BDD(Behaviour Driven Development) currently, but we can expect this number to increase in 2020 and onwards. A lot of organizations are adopting BDD and our training will help you and your team be ready for it. Software development process today requires a higher amount of collaboration between key stakeholders ensure all stakeholders are on the same page in terms of requirements and avoid rework post-development. BDD is the upcoming player to address this because of its simplicity, ubiquitous language use and increased level of collaboration right from the start i.e. requirement specification.
